Dear Mr. Rosa,
I am asking the optometrists employed by your company to consider their “right to self-organization, to
form, join, or assist labor organizations, to bargain collectively through representation of their own
choosing, and to engage in other concerted activities for the purpose of collective bargaining...” as it
applies to Section 7 of the National Labor Relations Act.
I am reminding you and your executives and managers that “It shall be an unfair labor practice for an
employer...to interfere with, restrain, or coerce employees in the exercise of the rights guaranteed in
section 7...”as defined in section 8(a) of the National labor Relations Act.
You have spoken often of your pride in your union past, including your fathers contributions to labor. I
can think of no better way to honor that legacy that to embrace the original purpose of the National
Labor Relations Act and join me in facilitating an open and honest debate within your company.
I am advising the optometrists of your company of their rights and asking my union members to help
monitor the situation. I do not know if the majority of optometrists wish to collectively bargain with you
but I do know that some do. We both now have an opportunity to witness a true democratic process of
debate and election.
You have spoken often to me of your wish to partner with the union. I am requesting that you honor
these words with deeds to match. Will you help or hinder this process?
